No one said the race would be easy.
Of course no one explained it'd be so challenging either. 20 kilometers though the freezing tundra, no stops along the way. The weather was unpredictable and so was the terrain. Winner takes all... including their mount. The stakes have never been higher for Diamond Vale. The originally equestrian-only estate had been looking into investing in purchasing a Shedu Cat, but have not yet been successful in their attempts. What good is an empty, 20-stall Shedu facility and fully trained staff if there are no cats to occupy them? To receive a Shedu completely free just by winning a race? It was an opportunity Diamond Vale could not afford to pass.
Nadia, Diamond Vale's recently hired Head Shedu Trainer, was sent to represent the facility. The Elsevier family was known for their creative races and Nadia got a bit more than what she bargained for when she was shipped out to the unforgiving North. She made quick friends with her rivals with her cheeky personality, but she meant business. When the brown male was lead in front of her, Nadia knew he was the one. The blue morning light made his sleek roaned pelt shine almost as bright as his gaze. As the other cats tugged on their leads, itching to play in the snow or with each other, or pulled and lashed out in defiance, the leopard cat stood still and proud, intelligent eyes looking past the other cats to the sun shinning on the mountains in the distance. It was obvious he meant business as well. She approached the cat, who flicked an ear in her direction, but did not turn to acknowledge her until she placed a hand on his shoulder. The cat seemed to smirk. Nadia had definitely chosen her mount.
Théoden. "Leader of the People".
Nadia could fill the chilly wind nipping at her body even through the suit as they raced across the freshly fallen snow. Throughout the run Nadia was neck-and-neck with a rider of Elsevier on the back of the infamous she-cat Sforza. If Nadia had reached out, she could of touched the heavy-built female cat beside her. Proud Sforza's muzzle was twisted into a sneer as she pulled against the tight reins, fighting to take the lead, which her handler encouraged. Théoden stumbled as the queen cat purposely kicked snow into his face to blind him, but never once did he meet her fierce gaze. He had a job to do and was now even more motivated than before. Before Nadia could realize what was happening, the turf changed and the cats skidded onto a frozen lake. They scrambled to gain traction on the ice and their sides heaved from the strain, producing little warm ghosts that escaped from their mouths. Suddenly the whole world began to rumble. Nadia looked over her shoulder to see an avalanche roar down the previously peaceful mountainside. The scream of a startled Shedu focused her attention back to what was in front of her to see the frozen lake cracking and splitting before her! Some riders jerked the reins, drawing their Shedus back to find another way as the lake pulled apart, while others reacted too late and took an impromptu bath. A quick glance at her Elsevier rival told her there was no way they were going to stop. So neither was she.
Nadia kicked Théoden's side and hugged his body tightly, who needed no further signal. The pair of Shedus picked up speed and launched themselves over the shortest gap as the piece of ice they were standing on only seconds before gave way. The Elsevier duo almost seemed shocked as Théoden landed beside them. Sforza, who was now loosing ground, tossed her head and snarled with displeasure as the male Shedu began to pull ahead. Nadia allowed her mount full control as he agilely navigated across the cracking lake. The avalanche was still going strong behind them, the Elsevier duo were catching up beside them and there was a Wasabi blimp ahead of them. The fastest Shedus who had lead the pack from the beginning suddenly didn't seem so far away as they began to tire. Nadia took a deep breath and urged Théoden to go faster.
It was all or nothing. And they finally had a chance.

Théoden has a great conformation and temperament like his Mahogany dam and is also a fairly balanced racer thanks to his Spartan father. Although Theo isn't /the/ slowest cat on the track, he excels most at long distance runs and can seize victories with ease when his faster competitors tire out. Théoden is very human-oriented and will follow his human "partners" around like a puppy, always wanting to please and hoping for a scratch. He is a bit socially awkward and submissive around more dominant animals. Not particularly playful, this smart cat prefers cuddles and just relaxing in his free time. On the track however, Theo becomes very focused with his eyes on the prize and ears back to listen to every command given. This cat is dedicated and loyal to the end and will try to do all you ask, even if it is beyond his ability. He will run until his legs give out if that is what you want. He takes his work seriously and seems disheartened when he 'fails'. Theo has what we jokingly call 'tunnel vision', since he usually seems aloof to his surroundings, only focusing on one thing at a time. This cat hates being baby-talked and goes crazy for peanut butter.
